Hvar
The island of Hvar is an island in the eastern part of the coast. It got its name from the Greek Pharos-lighthouse. The name changed over time to Pharia and Fara. On the island itself, the inhabitants,pronounce the name differently. So, here we have: Hvor, For and Hvar. Due to the abundance of sun during the year, it is also called Sunny Hvar. The surface of the island of Hvar is covered mainly with pine forests and vineyards. That is why it has a rich offer of excellent wines. Hvar once had a rich agriculture, olive oil, wine, lavender fields, lavender oil, fruits and vegetables. In the 50s they began to turn more to tourism. Hvar is visited both in summer and in winter. The famous Condé Nast Traveler magazine in 2021 ranked it as the best island to live in.
Pakleni Islands
Pakleni islands are a set of limestone islands in the Adriatic Sea, in the Croatian part of the Adriatic. They are located a few hundred meters southwest of the town of Hvar. They extend to the extreme western cape of the island of Hvar. The Pakleni islands are named after the type of resin (paklini) used in shipbuilding. The islands are a protected natural monument. Pakleni islands consists of islets and cliffs: Vodnjak Veli, Vodnjak Mali, Karbun, Lengva, Travna, Paržanj, Borovac, Sveti Klement, Škojić, Baba, Dobri otok, Stambedar, Pločice, Gojca, Planikovac, Marinkovac, Jerolim. They are separated from Hvar by the Pakleni channel.
